Happy Dance

Happy Dance.

They even put me in the Credits.

(As the Purple Pimp)

That was really awesome. They didn't have to do that- not even a little bit. I'm pretty goddamn happy about that one.

Cassia's In Seattle

Cassia is in Seattle!  And she's been having epic adventures...

Highlights of my roaming thus far:::

SAN FRANSISCO, CA::

We just spent one night there, getting free chocolate from Ghiradelli's factory and meandering up hills and chomping french fries by the beach, but it was pretty in a close-to-home sort of way. The only time I've been extremely homesick since leaving and also the only time sleeping in the car sounded like an appetizing idea.

EUREKA, CA::

Fireworks!! For the 4th of July we slid into town just in time to catch the show, although it was drowned in fog.  There was a travelling carnival there, with old rides and dirty concession stands and everything.  I asked a woman who was working a game if I could have a job on a lark and she said that she would let me talk to "Grandma" and I was sure to be able to work.  I was thrilled, but Morgan had already gone to the trouble to get me tickets to the Oregon Country Faire and I felt I had to go to see her.  I asked where the carnival was going to next, noted the city, and kept it in mind.  I haven't joined it (obviously, since I'm in Seattle) but the idea is still tempting.

ARCATA, CA::

We went to a farmer's market fair where I met some poi spinners and learned to do some rad hula hooping tricks.  There was a fun band playing and we danced and biked and drank coffee in a little sunny shop and it seemed like a generally light hearted town.

RANDOM NATIONAL FOREST, CA/OR::

We were so flipping dirty and sore from travelling/sleeping in the car that we decided to google some hot springs.  We'd been jumping in random rivers whenever we saw one while driving (which was so fun, to just pull over anywhere and dive mwahhahaha) but a hot springs sounded soooo nice.  I'd been telling Theo about Ojo Caliente, the resort my grandparents used to own part of, and that just made us want to go to one even more.  So we googled and found one that wasn't too far out of the way and drove to the forest it was supposed to be in.  Yah, the tank was almost empty and we had little food and water but hey, this was goanna be easy, no sweat, day trip.  I drove (yes, it's true) along the more deserted smooth straight streets.  About, oh, ten hours later we were at the top of this mountain watching the sun set next to a snow bank when we finally admitted that we were the worst hot springs finders ever.  At least we had a snow fight, although frozen water was NOT what we were hoping for.  We did find the spring late the next day,  we'd driven hours and hours out of the way because we'd read the directions wrong.  It was a beautiful slimy green pool in the middle of nowhere and there was a snake sunning itself on the rocks.

EUGENE, OR::

Fire spinners, jugglers, friends from fire drums, circus people galore, cute thrift stores, police who don't take kindly to afternoon naps on lawns (the bastards-- oh, you're sleeping?  On a LAWN?  in a PARK?  at a COLLEGE CAMPUS?  and you look like clean cut COLLEGE STUDENTS???  We need to investigate this.  We need to stand here with our guns and question you suspicious people damn it!)  We biked around a lot, explored bookshops and back alleys, chilled at the campus, talked to people, made friends.  Tried to dumpster--- that failed.

OREGON COUNTRY FAIRE::

I learned to juggle!  Well, almost.  I juggled five passes of three balls in a row a few times so I think that counts as understanding the general idea.  The faire was amazing, great bands, steam punks, buskers, music and food everywhere, everyone in costume with wild body paint and fairy wings.  Stilt walkers, vaudville dancers, fire spinners, hula hoops, hand stands, contact jugglers with color changing balls, tattoos, dust.

Hung out with Morgan and made a bunch of friends.  Morgan had gotten me a pass that let me stay at the faire overnight but there was one issue:: Theo didn't have one.  And how lame would it be to leave him?  So---- well, that's a whooole nother story that you'll have to ask me about in person.  But the after hours faire was amazing!  ;)

All the candle stalls had their candles lit, everyone there at night was a performer, a dancer, a pyro, a traveller.  Kids ran wild in rennasance garb with glow sticks and neon flashed in the tree limbs.

I held a macaw and tried on jewelry and danced and washed dishes for food and theo sang A Whole New World for free ice cream.  There was a chinese style dragon full of people that ran around and people painted blue dressed as Hindu gods and people jump roping on stilts and a stilt walker dressed up so he looked like an ent from Lord of the Rings.  Theo started to teach me guitar.  Morgan gave me an amber necklace.

SHERLOCK HOLMES & THE SALINE SOLUTION
Sound & Fury
Gas Station Theatre (Venue 18), to July 26

Richard Maritzer, Shelby Bond and Vinny Cardinale had a large first-night turn-out of Sound & Fury fans in uproarious laughter before they even began their performance. In turn, the three were having a hard time stifling their smiles and giggles as everyone on both sides of the footlights at the Gas Station Theatre enjoyed themselves.

As they have done to much hilarity with the Bard's plays, the Los Angeles-based troupe lampooned Sherlock Holmes and give it a typical Sound & Fury twist. Leading man Maritzer got tricked out of playing Holmes by Bond, who dons the great fictional detective's deerstalker cap and portrays him as a dim-witted goof. "The game is afeet," enthuses Bond. Maritzer is demoted to the role of Dr. Watson, but plays his character as the much sharper sleuth.

Throughout the show, the local favourites added asides (a joke about Confusion Corner brought down the house) and generally had a ball with sexual double entendres and Sherlockian satire.

iPod Fever

I have just spent 2 hours and $55 bucks on iTunes........
I downloaded a buncha 60's tunes, the ones I used to sing-a-long with when I was a kid (Winchester Cathedral, I'm Henry the VIII). And some we sang in music class (Wendy).

Then there were the few from the 70's - Indian Reservation, Fox on the Run, Build Me Up, Buttercup...
I skipped the 80's & 90's

I finished up with contemporary selections - Stop, Shut Up, Clint Eastwood, Love Me Dead....

I surprised myself by purchasing several Weezer tunes. I'm not a big fan, but I do like Undone (the sweater song), Hash Pipe, Beverly Hills. I even bought one of their annoying (IMO) songs, Islands in the Sun. Reminds me so much of The Archies!!!!

Speaking of which..... yah, I downloaded some Archies songs!! *snort* Of course I grabbed Sugar, Sugar! And Hot Dog...and Archie's Party...and because I will fall down laughing at myself for this, Everything's Archie.... so c'mon let's go with the Archie Show! ROTFLMAOAM!! (AM = at myself)

OK, the pup wants to be fed now....

So, prove this isn't a religion.

And, since people are being used as dupes, who benefits?  Clearly, someone is gaining a great deal of money in this.  (It's just as bad as the oil companies.)

The kids

[info]blank_redge came over last night and asked the kids what they wanted to do in regards to going up to visit their dad. They both chose to go to Norcal for August, so I'll be "free" for... well, 3 weeks.

I do still have Girl Scout stuff planned, I kinda have to do it, I'm the leader. But other than that, I'm *SO* able to do whatever I want for 3 weeks.
