March Movie Madness...

Day 2 of Schindler's List, the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto.

I had to explain to a 16 year old why cheering was about the exact WRONG emotion to have during this scene.

his response?

"Man, that was so cool, the way they shot the guy. I wish I could do that."

What the F#$& is wrong with the kids today?  And don't feed me that BS about video games.  It's something seriously wrong in their hard wiring that they haven't been taught to empathize with ANYTHING.

Video games don't remove a person's soul.
Exactly.

I swear, each year, I get more (mostly male) teenagers with no "soul"...
I weep for the future.
I'm pretty sure it's all posturing (or poseuring)...

Just a lame attempt to look cool!

:::hugs::: I'm so sorry you have to a) watch Schindler's List again* and b) deal with a$$hats like that kid. I honestly think it's partially a product of the lives some of these kids lead, coupled with the need to look tough and act like nothing is important. Why it is cool to be an uncaring a$$, I don't know, but it seems it is.

*Please note, I have nothing against Schindler's List, I just have no desire to have another run at having my emotions wrung out the way they were the first time I saw the film.
I watch it 5 periods a day, for five days, every year in the spring.

Why?

1)I get the chance to go into NICE detail about both the history of the Holocaust and into the impact on today (like, did you know Spielberg donates all the profits to the Shoal (sp?) fund, and he accepted no money, considering it blood money.)

2) I get to make them think about the consequences of their actions on a broader scale.

3) I get to ask ALOT of "What would you do...?" questions, making them think.

4)all sorts of other connections to the past are forged.

5) I guess I'm also supporting the tissue industry. I'm always in tears by the end...
